| ICP-MS HomeResearchAnalytical Capabilities Contacts | We measure inorganic trace element concentrations of water, soils, rocks, organic materials and biological fluids, by solution-based Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). Our Thermo Electron X7 ICP-MS is capable of measuring trace element concentrations as low as parts per trillion, while retaining the capability of measuring concentration at weight percent. All sample preparation procedures for ICP-MS are performed in our Class 100 trace element free clean laboratory. The ICP-MS is used for:
Environmental applications have included analyses of water and soils contaminated by toxic metals (e.g. Pb, Cd, Hg, Tc) from industrial activities and tracking of metal transport in the environment. Medical applications include analyses of ultra-trace metal concentrations (e.g. Au, Cd, Hg, Gd, Pt), and trace metal concentrations (e.g. Pb, Zn, Al, Cr, transition metals) in biological fluids, tissues, and bone. Geological applications include trace element analyses of sediments, soils, rocks, and meteorites. Available analytical capabilities at UR ICP-MS Lab and collaborating labs:
